According to my dealer it uses somewhat of a pre programmed time in its logic as well. Mine showed due in 7000 miles on my recent purchased car with 17k on it even though the pads were replaced at some point and appear almost new. Per the service guy he said it has to get to 2500 miles before he can reset it.
He also said they can go up like yours has or sit at some mileage for a very long time.
