It's not a fixed ratio on either - I believe what BMW said is that it's the default ratio for each of the two cars.

It's a much lighter car, and doesn't need as much rear power before it oversteers, I presume?
As for the X5M, you can't even take it to a track day, as it's too tall and heavy to be allowed on most tracks. I may gain a few enemies here by saying it, but I believe the main justification for it is the "look at me" effect, i.e. it isn't bought to be driven hard but to one-over the Joneses in their Merc.
With the X6M, you may have a point, but I don't know how slide happy that one is.
