I've BMW X1 28i 2010 and have done the retrofitted the sport steering wheel and now have paddles for shifting by hand the automatic transmission. I have
ordered a special cable in USA and retrofit has been done by a professional mechanic it works perfect. If you are interested please tell and I can send a copy of wiring diagram and the name of US company where to order.
