Seriously considered the XC60 (and X3) but that higher bigger numb steering SUV experience lost out to the more fun X1

Agreed. I'm going to test drive another one at a different dealership that's in the suburbs with some access to roads where the speed limit is above 35 mph. Plus, it will be during the day without rush hour traffic.
I've seen good things about the XC60 R but it's a bit too big for me.
