I got the X3 numbers from BMWUSA website and the X1 numbers from this post. BMW always offers smaller engines in Europe so I would expect X1 will be no exception but I don't think they will go below the 18d that is currently offered for X3 in Europe and puts out 143hp. The same size engine in X1 will probably improve mileage due to smaller size of the vehicle but I doubt the improvement will be more than 10-12% at most. Considering European taxes and premiums on luxury brand cars and the culture, I doubt that 10-12% higher or lower fuel cost is a major financial factor to a prospetcive BMW customer in Europe.
