Got some more useful seat time in both cars today, neither with paddles unfortunately. Well this time I drove the 28 in manual mode and it was quite a bit better than I remember. Still felt the ride of the 35 with the 18s was better than that of the 28i with 17s- crappy goodyears I guess and I'd up to the 18s with Pirellis anyhow. The 4 is impressive when its in the 3-6 happy zone. Most notably I took the same route with both cars, A/C on about 10 miles of hilly highway resetting when just underway and actually did a bit better (23.7) vs (23.2) with the 35i. Did feel more lean than expected in the 35 on a rotary, but then the 28 felt nearly the same it is a CUV after all. I think I prefer the non-servotronic steering of the 28i and shifting the 8s manually is snappier, better. Bottom line: its a tough call to the point where it could come down to what car at what price on what day- both have many redeeming traits. I am concerned that I wouldn't come close to the 33 hwy with the 28 but at least I'd get (almost) a free nav screen for the "sacrifice" in displacement. The saga continues...where's my diesel b!tches
