My Indy shop and dealer told me the front brakes needed to be replaced. I didn't like their prices so I bought the pads at the dealer and the rotors online (drilled and slotted). I admit I did not bother inspecting the pads myself since both shops, over a few month period, told me they needed to be replaced.
The day I replaced them I pulled one side off and noticed the pads were over 50% remaining, I figured the other side must have worn out prematurely. No such luck, it was fine too. The rotors barely had a lip on them. Since I had all the parts I went ahead and replaced them and kept the old rotors in case I need them later.
I figure the computer told the shop rats that the pads were worn out so that is why they told me, no one ever checked the actual condition. I blame myself almost as much as I blame them, they are pros so they should have caught it.
Don't trust the computer.
