Maybe you're still getting winter gas. That might have a bit to do with it. I think I get better mileage because my car is lowered which helps wind resistance a bit. Like improvius mentioned, things like a roof rack, those window rain vents etc will lower fuel economy. Tires play a big role too.
I seem to be one of the very few 28i guys that gets really good mileage, the rest seem to be worse than the 35i.
