Your salesman is making up stuff. Car manufacturer's want their cars to be masculine, almost never feminine. Theres a whole lot of psychology behind it but think of it this way, you see guys buying masculine stuff all the time, and women buying masculine stuff all the time, but you rarely see guys buying feminine stuff (unless they're homosexual). As a car manufacturer you will sell more if it appeals to men, because then both men and women will buy it. |
Weeeeellllllll... The approach might be different in North America, land of big gas-guzzlers, V8 powered HUGE cars... An X1 looks rather small, even compared to a run-of-the-mill Impala, where in Europe it's an average size, in the likes of the Mondeo, 3 Series or A4.
Look at the Mini. Fact is, in Europe it IS a girl's car and the marketing is geared towards the feminine crowd.
So there might be some sense in this dealer's observation...
