I haven't had to jack the X1 with the scissor (used a floor jack when changing to the winter wheels/tires) but did have to jack my 135i Coupe twice (flat in the same right-rear runflat twice). Many turns required, but the handle rachets.
As to where you put the space-saver spare...cargo net or stuffed in with the rest of your holiday gear.
