I don't understand why either. Americans love SUVs and Sedans, but hate wagons and hatchbacks (exception to VW Golf, which appears to be very popular).
hatchbacks got that bash maybe because of honda brappers (the school guy who has a 10k budget but spends half of that in tuning and half in an old car)
If BMW is going full blown FWD based AWD hatchback, then I just rather take the Golf R instead. It's such a fine ride, under 40k new and 292 horses.
If they do offer the 2 series gran coupe, I do wish it comes in manual transmission, 6 cylinders and RWD (6MT not offered in the 4 series GC).
