Just picked up my wife's new X1 on Tuesday. I was very frustrated when I couldn't program the openers as per manual instructions. I read that the key needs to be on, which I had done. It turns out the vehicle must be running to program and operate the garage door opener. Did not see that in the manual. Hope this helps.
