The Maxi Cosi Mico AP car carrier only could fit in the middle of the back seat. That is a smaller, lightweight carrier but it is only good until 22lb and our daughter grew to tall for it even before that.

Chicco Nextfit convertible is listed as a good choice for smaller cars. It fits barely behind the driver's seat if I move my seat up 1" which wasn't too big of a deal (I am 6' with shorter legs). I also sit fairly upright when driving. The Nextfit has 9 different tilt angles which is nice. Our alternate was the Maxi Cosi Pria which is supposed to be the best space-saving convertible for small cars. I like the car seat behind the driver's seat rather than the middle because I find it's less taxing on my back to get her in and out.

Still hoping I can get away with keeping the X1 for the long haul as our baby grows older. So far so good.
