I use M 99% of the time, with the Alpina transmission flash.
I like being in the right gear to blow away Corvettes that try to beat me to the merge ;P
I tried out normal S auto mode on the track just out of curiosity (for example, Porsche's PDK has excellent shift logic), and it is not very good. M is the only way to go.
