Anyhow, yes it is higher from the ground than your average car of the types mentioned - not a lot, but a 7-7.6" ground clearance (depending on model) is on the plus side.
Personally, I won't miss a side baseboard, because I can stand in the door frame. They do sell replacement door frame base covers, after all.
What would have been useful would be a rear half-step in the bumper, like many crossovers have, because reaching onto the roof from the back can be hard unless you're tall.

I think it looks good on X3 and X5, but the one I linked to looks awful indeed. Do BMW offer this oem for X1?
