They are setting themselves up for so much backlash and problems at the dealer level they are going to regret. How many pissed off owners with the exact same engines are going to go in and raise hell about this. They already pulled this shit with Mini a couple of years ago when the owners manual stated "oil must be changed every 12 months" and they claimed "free maintenance"and then you went in and they wouldn't pay for it until the light came on. I had this happen and then BMW gave in after a few months and started paying at 12 months. I can't imagine them doing this now unless they have noticed some engine wear or failures. Everyone should go to their dealer and insist on free changes at 12 months or 10,000 miles. I believe they already do 12 months but not 10,000 miles. I'm fortunate I drive less than 10,000 per year but they will have to change this policy to include older cars or they will create a lot of bad will with long time owners like myself with 14 BMW's bought.
