I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my X1 right now, and they are OK. I use them as my "non summer" set. They did a great job in the 9" of snow that we had last week. I even ran through(over) some much deeper drifts without any problems. They do ride harder than I expected though. If you think that the RF tires are too hard-riding then you might want to opt for Conti ExtremeContact DW(Summer) or Conti ExtremeContact DWS All-Season. They are a bit more comfy and a damn good tire for a lot less $$$ than the Pilots. I have no personal experience with the Contis on my X1 but I do on my '06 Miata...I'd get them again if needed. When the Pilots wear out I'll replace them with the Conti DWS.
FWIW, when running non-run flats I keep a small compressor and a "Stop and Go" tire plugging kit in the boot.
No issues so far with over 10 years of driving non-run flats and no spare. *fingers crossed*
