Thanks for all the replies. Pondering more and talking to some local people, definitely sounds like intended behavior. I just never had this on my 335, so I was surprised by "anticipated" wheel spin kicking it on. Joys of open diffs, I guess.
I would do more testing, but we keep getting snow, so I doubt that will be a legitimate test...
