Yep, roof racks come as standard in all models, from 1.8i through to 2.5i
We don't have 1.d 8here in Aus; only 1.8i. Definitely as mario486 says, it all depends on what you use/want your X1 for, and varies between countries (predominantly because of weather and motorways).
There's an ~ $4k difference between 1.8i and 2.0d here, which may be more worthwhile in terms of cost from better fuel efficiency, depending on how long you have your X1 for. All depends on your own individual situation of course
