I agree with vstolpner. The hitch with bike rack is much more versatile. The hitch install is easy and the cost of one is inexpensive. I find the hitch bike racks to be easy to use and store in the garage when not in use. I'm 6 ft tall but think that a roof rack bike mount would be a huge PITA.

Moreover, I use my hitch with a cargo carrier. It kicks up the practicality of a hatch immensely. I've carried a bunch of very large arborvitaes in the spring that would not have been possible otherwise. On another occasion, several bales of straw that would have been a complete mess if I hauled it inside the car.

I know some people like the hidden hitches but I think the hitch looks good on my car.
