I am pretty certain that no one will be able to carry TWO bikes in the X1.

Unlike my TDI Golf where I can have FOUR bikes inside, the X1 has a good 5-6" less in floor-to-ceiling height since the X1 floor is so HIGH comparatively.

While this sounds like not that much difference, it means that you cannot stand the bikes up (front wheel removed) in the X1 like you can the Golf, which means you have to lay the bike down.

Now if you have Toys-R-Us bikes where you truly don't care if they mash against each other, I suppose you could stack one on top of the other.

However as someone who cares about bikes and even cheap bikes (whose derailleurs can still get twisted and un-adjusted from such brutal treatment and handling as laying one on top of the other), I would not recommend this.

Truly the X1 can only fit one bike inside, which is the same capacity as the 3'er sedan with the trunk and seats folded down. Bring your bike to the dealer and see for yourself. The VW Golf carries more (and I was shocked and saddened to discover this).
