Got my 2013 xDrive28i in December. My first couple of tanks were pure stop/go city driving, no highway, expressway or boulevard cruising. I got about 15 mpg, calculated manually for each full tank. I now have about 4500 miles and I'm getting about 18 mpg under the same driving conditions. Some of the improvement is likely due to the warmer temps and normal (not winter blend) gas. But a lot of it is just due to it getting broken-in.
My last tank of pure highway driving, at 75 mph, netted 30 mpg. I calculate that for the EPA city cycle, I should get about 21 mpg. Not quite the 22 mpg advertised, but close.
By the way, I have found that for my car, the computer avg mpg is about 0.5 mpg optimistic, compared to a manual calculation.
