Doubt it. Traditional t-stats use static temps that heats up the wax to command opening/closing of the valve. The t-stats in our cars are quite sophisticated. The opening and closing is determined by the DME predefined maps. Therefore it's more responsive than conventional t-stats. Not sure why you'd go back to conventional t-stats, but I think you'd get an error code if you do.
@0w40X1: I too noticed this characteristics when I hooked up Torque Pro to the car to watch the temps. I'm sure BMW has a reason for the maps for efficiencies.
