Most of these issues, if not all, really regard the N54 engine. The N52 has been proven to be extremely reliable.
As for the OP's question. It's an E91. The N20 first appeared in the X1, not the F30. So in a sense, it's really the E84 powertrain which has been installed in the F30. So far, the only real issue that has been seen with the N20 is the waste gate. The xDrive box as well can become problematic, but I think it's a lesser problem.
The only real issue I've had with my car to date was with the pano roof. It leaked and caused in excess of $7000 damage. Warranty paid for the whole shebang as well as loss of use of the vehicle. This is a more common problem with any vehicle with a pano roof, than it is just with the X1.
