I'm not sure what countries you can currently get a FWD Impreza in, but it's not many.

But anyway, what's your point?

You just said the A4s have a transverse engine. The Impreza doesn't.

The Impreza is not a "FWD-based car" like the others you mentioned are. The Impreza is set up for AWD, with a traditional RWD layout in fact, except in VERY limited numbers, a transmission without a center diff on the back of it is installed.

It's not a FWD based car as the term is used in the art. It's nothing like the other cars you mentioned. It's layout is completely different. It's layout is everything like, for example, a RWD BMW's.
Oops, bungled the term, yes the A4 and larger all have longitudinal motors, but are fwd based. It doesn't matter if the torque bias favors the rear wheels or if they don't sell many or any fwd versions. It's fwd based.

In theory, the F48 and E84 have the same 40/60 torque split, but one's fwd based and one's rwd based. Based, not biased, that's all we're talking about here.

Ultimately, tuning, diff setup and chassis have more to do with it. An Evo oversteers a lot more than an STI even with VDC set all the way back. A Focus RS sure looks like it's going to be much more oversteer capable than say our E84.

Sadly, Subaru, Mitsu and Ford are using much better center diffs to get the power back than the Haldex that BMW, MB and VW are all using. The future of small, sporty BMW's seems dark. And yes, I did drive the F48.

It's semantics and silly, and I still prefer rwd and having one set of tires steer and one put the power down. Have I mentioned that I drive a 100% fwd Mazda 3? Stupid lack of rwd, manual wagons. I'd actually buy an STI if they made this version in a hatch, but will ultimately probably get a Focus RS once dealers come back to reality.
