I finally got around to do some shopping today. I picked up a phone holder for $3 the material of which perfectly matches the cupholder trim. Then I went hunting for a tin of some type that would fit into the cupholder and offer a nice surface for the phone holder suction to be applied. It took about 2 hours
but I found one containing "decorating sugar" ($4) that worked well.
