The Valvetronic on the N55 supposedly reduces gas consumption compared to the N54, by restricting the time for gas intake. I think it's a great little engine.
When I drive for fun, I get around 19 mpg, but everyday use is 22.9. Nothing really to complain about there, for the type of vehicle it is.
